The examination will be held in three phases i.e. Preliminary examination, Main examination and Interview. The candidates who are shortlisted after Preliminary examination will have to appear for Main examination. The candidates shortlisted after the main examination will be subsequently called for Interview.

Phase-I: Preliminary examination:

Preliminary examination consisting of Objective test for 100 marks is conducted. The test contains 3 sections (with separate timings for each section). The mode of exam is online. The questions are in English and Hindi both (except English Language Section). There is negative marking for wrong answers (1/4th of total marks allotted for that question).

Preliminary exam pattern (2019)

English Language 30 30 20 mins
Quantitative Aptitude 35 35 20 mins
Reasoning Ability 35 35 20 mins
Total 100 100 60 mins

Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing minimum cut-off marks to be decided by IBPS. Category wise merit list is drawn on the basis of aggregate marks scored in this exam. Normally candidates numbering approximately 10 times the number of vacancies are shortlisted for the main examination.

Phase – II: Main Examination:

Main examination consists of Objective tests for 200 marks and Descriptive test for 25 marks. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests are online. The questions in Objective Test are in English and Hindi both (except English Language). There is negative marking for wrong answers in the Objective test (1/4th of total marks allotted for that question). Candidates need to answer Descriptive test by typing on the computer. Descriptive test is administered immediately after completion of the Objective Test.

(i) Objective test: The objective test of 3 hours duration consists of 4 sections for total 200 marks. The objective test has separate timing for every section. Different questions may carry different marks and that is specified beside the questions.

Category wise merit list is drawn on the basis of aggregate marks scored in Mains examination. Normally candidates numbering approximately 3 times the number of vacancies are shortlisted for the next round.

Phase – III: Interview (100 marks)

Interviews are conducted for individual candidates. A panel of 4-5 evaluators interviews a candidate to evaluate her/his personality, skills, and suitability for the job and organisation. The whole process takes around 3-5 hours depending upon the number of candidates and the panel.

Final selection

The marks obtained in the Preliminary examination (Phase-I) are not added for preparing the final merit list for selection. Only the marks obtained in Main examination (Phase-II), both in Objective test and Descriptive test, are added to the marks obtained in Interview (Phase-III) for preparing the final merit list. The minimum qualifying marks in interview will not be less than 40% (35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWBD candidates). The candidates need to qualify both in Phase-II and Phase-III separately. Marks secured by the candidates in the Main examination (out of 225 marks) are converted to out of 80 and marks secured in Interview (out of 100 marks) are converted to out of 20. The final merit list is arrived at after aggregating converted marks of Main examination and Interview out of 100.
