IIFT or the The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade is an autonomous public business school established in 1963 by the Government of India (Ministry of Commerce and Industry) to help professionalize the country's foreign trade management and increase exports by developing human resources; generating, analysing and disseminating data; and conducting research. Its flagship program is the Master of Business Administration in International Business (MBA-IB).

IIFT was conferred the status of Deemed University in 2002. It conducts an autonomous entrance examination across various centres in India.

IIFT is the admission test for both campuses - New Delhi and Kolkata - of the eponymous IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade). It provides admission to the two-year full-time MBA course of IIFT i.e. MBA International Business (IB). Till 2020, IIFT used to be the only paper-pencil based test among all the major MBA aptitude tests. In 2020, there have been two major changes to the way, IIFT is being conducted:

  • IIFT is moving from a paper-pencil test to a computer-based test (CBT).
  • IIFT is being conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) that also conducts CMAT.

IIFT 2020 was conducted on 1 December.

Any eligible candidate, who aspires to join a B-School through IIFT, is required to register online for IIFT first and pay a fee of Rs. 2000 (for General and OBC candidates) and Rs. 1000 (SC/ST/PH candidates). To know about the procedure in detail you can visit IIFT website.

Essential academic qualifications:

Candidates should have a recognised Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration in any discipline from a recognised institute. Candidates appearing for a qualifying examination can also apply subject to submission of proof of requisite qualification by beginning of October of the year of start of the course.

Age and number of attempts:

There is no age bar for taking IIFT.

The selection procedure for IIFT is normally in 2 phases i.e. online examination (IIFT) followed by WAT, GD, PI. After candidates take the entrance exam they will be shortlisted on the basis of marks obtained in the exam for the IIFT selection procedure. Post the exam, candidates will move to the next step where candidates will be called for the GD/ PI/ WAT rounds.

Phase-I: Online examination (IIFT)

The IIFT admission test is a multiple choice objective type test (in English) of 120 minutes. This year, IIFT has been conducted in Online Mode by NTA. IIFT follows a differential marking. Negative Marking: 1/3 of allotted marks. The IIFT 2020 test had major changes in the pattern from the previous years’ pattern when the test was conducted on-paper. There were four sections in IIFT-2020, unlike 6 in the previous two years. There was a change in the weightage allotted to questions in the four sections.
